It did not take long for Australian fashion designer Christopher Esber to make waves on the international fashion scene. After storming onto the Australian scene in 2012, the Sydney-based talent has been recognised with award after award, including representing Australia at the 2013/14 International Woolmark Prize global final. Now, he continues his romance with wool as he champions the fibre’s trans-seasonal properties, unveiling a Cool Wool collection.

INTERNATIONALLY COOL

Following on from Christopher Esber’s International Woolmark Prize success at the 2013/14 Australian regional finals, the Australian designer has again partnered with The Woolmark Company to produce his debut Cool Wool capsule collection, which will also feature as part of his wider AW15 main line.

For this 10-piece capsule collection the Sydney-based designer has focused on lightweight Merino wool fabric to punctuate his AW15/16 collection, not only highlighting the trans-seasonal properties of Merino wool but also offering a collection suited to both northern and southern hemispheres.

Comprising six looks and 10 pieces, Esber’s Cool Wool collection includes a floating lapel shirt, draped skirt trouser, woven tapestry bodice and a slide wrap skirt. A raglan tee, kilt skirt, slide skort, slide pleat skirt, kilt slip dress and cami complete the collection.

“I have always looked to approach the use of wool within my collections in an unexpected way,” says Esber. “Autumn/Winter 2015 is the collection with which I have entered the international market, and in doing so, I needed ensure my use of wool translated to both hemispheres.”

With designers, retailers and brands increasingly challenged by undefined seasons and unusual weather patterns, there is heightened demand for trans-seasonal products, which can respond to this challenge. Merino wool is a living, breathing fibre and has a natural and unique ability to regulate temperature providing an ideal solution for premium casual and formal wear whatever the season.

“Merino wool is an incredibly versatile fibre and I have been able to interpret its use into varied silhouettes from fine sheer mesh shirting to structured dresses and skirts.

“As a designer I find inspiration as I toile. Wool is a fibre that moulds and eases into an intended shape, assisting me in the creative process of design.”

The Woolmark Company remains committed to designers who want to explore more ways of working with wool. Through this partnership The Woolmark Company has worked closely with Esber to identify the best suppliers of lightweight Merino wool through the illustrious Cool Wool guild members. Esber exclusively sourced and manufactured his Cool Wool collection with Nikke, a highly respected and long-term Woolmark licensee and Cool Wool guild member based in Japan.
