2015 marks a double win for Team USA, with New York-based label M.PATMOS adding to the country’s tally for this year’s International Woolmark Prize, scooping the womenswear final held at the JE Mansion in Beijing.

In front of an esteemed judging panel including style icon Victoria Beckham, Vogue Italia Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani and Vogue China Editor-in-Chief Angelica Cheung, New York-based fashion designer Marcia Patmos, of M.PATMOS, was announced the winner of the 2015 International Woolmark Prize womenswear final.

After a global search reaching across 21 countries and involving more than 60 designers, M.PATMOS edged out four other design talents including VMAJOR from China, STRATEAS.CARLUCCI from Australia, AUGUSTIN TEBOUL from Germany and Bird on a Wire from Lebanon in an intense judging session.

“The International Woolmark Prize gives emerging talent from wherever they are an incredible opportunity,” explained Victoria Beckham.

“I am really excited to be here in Beijing to be part of this event. I felt that Patmos embodied best what the IWP stands for. The collection was well executed and the concept interesting.”

M.PATMOS was recognised for her utilitarian Merino wool-rich collection which fuses streetwear with function and style. Playing with a neutral colour palette of earthy tones and charcoals, M.PATMOS presented long coats with knit legging, boxy pants and knitted shawls with a chunky fringe. Dressed in wool from head to toe, models also sported wool-covered Nikes along with wool beanies.

Fashion commentator/journalist and IWP judge Colin McDowell added there was a sense of elegance mixed with youthful spirit in the American’s collection.

“I thought that it was a very sophisticated collection which used Merino wool to make clothes that were elegant but also young in spirit,” he said.

In addition to prestigious recognition, M.PATMOS receives a financial contribution of AU$100,000 (US$76,366) and the opportunity to be stocked in the most important retailers around the globe including Saks Fifth Avenue, Harvey Nichols, 10 Corso Como, JOYCE, Isetan Mitsukoshi, David Jones and mytheresa.com.

“Thank you to The Woolmark Company for creating this great platform to support emerging designers,” said Marcia Patmos on her big win. “I am looking forward to seeing what happens as a result of this new opportunity.”

The collection will be available in partner retailers globally from August 2015.
