Recognised as one of the world’s fastest bowlers in the world of cricket, Australian sports icon Brett Lee is trying his hand at something different and has unveiled a new collection of 100 per cent Australian Merino wool scarves.

Creating awareness through fashion

Amongst all the colour and bright lights of the October 2013 edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, an unlikely designer launched his latest collection.

Known and loved by cricket fans across the world, former Australian cricketer and one of the fastest bowlers the world has seen, Brett Lee, unveiled a collection of Woolmark-certified scarves made from Australian Merino wool.

Unveiled for the first time in New Delhi, Brett’s love for India and its culture rests at the heart of his latest venture – yet his Australian roots are also woven in to the Six Stitcher Scarves Series thanks to the sole use of the Australian fibre.

Known to most as a formidable cricketer, Brett Lee also has many other interests outside the sporting arena including music and fashion and in particular his love for India. Having travelled to India many times during his cricket career, Brett is humbled by the country and its people, who have given him so much to be thankful for.

The partnership is the latest development for social enterprise the Artisans of Fashion - which links international designers and Indian artisans to help ensure traditional techniques, skills and crafts of the artisan community are not lost to future generations – and is an organisation of which Brett is an ambassador.

Hand-loomed in the foothills of the Himalayas by the Panchachuli Women Weavers of India, the scarves highlight the natural, renewable and biodegradable properties of Merino wool, with sales also supporting the Panchachuli village community.

"I’m really proud to be supporting the Artisans of Fashion and the Women Weavers of Panchachuli; it's a great cause and something I'm really proud to be a part of,” Brett said during the launch.

Unique and luxurious, naturally!

Luxuriously soft and comfortable next to skin, Merino wool was the ideal fibre for the Six Stitcher Scarves Series. Long been known as a textile for warmth, the scarves are the ideal way to highlight wool’s moisture management and temperature regulation properties. Not only does Merino wool keep you warm when the weather is cold, but it also keeps you cool when the mercury soars, and thus Merino wool is a fibre for all seasons.

At the launch of the collection Brett said he was extremely thankful of the support The Woolmark Company had given towards the Six Stitcher scarves and noted that the Woolmark brand’s quality endorsement was invaluable for the cause.

The combination of Merino wool with Brett Lee, Artisans of Fashion and the Panchachuli Women Weavers of India formed a brilliant partnership and one which exudes the beauty and versatility of Merino wool as a fibre.
